Cheese Plate app good for
Coming from Chronicle Books, its no surprise that photography is mouthwateringly beautiful but I was surprised by what a difference such gorgeous graphics can make to the experience of an app use. These photos are handy visual reference of cheese for sure, but are also giving me so many wonderful ideas about how to serve them. Putting together a Cheese Plate is almost always for entertaining in our house, so I always wanted to learn about how to plate them as much as selecting them. Using wooden cutting board as a plate....Layering a small and larger plates to separate different kind of cheese... So many smart and elegant presentation ideas that I cant wait to try.
Also, I am not a big fan of carrying a book to a market. Its heavy and bulky, and I dont love the book gets dirty during the trip. This app might not be as comprehensive as some of the cheese reference books, but its a perfect on-the-go alternative. Besides, the information packed in this app is actually more than enough for my casual everyday reference. There is a section that shows many themed Cheese Plate ideas. Another section is a reference in which I can search cheese by country or type, look up cheese terms, learn tips etc. And I love love love that each cheese comes with wine paring suggestions! I am already excited about inviting friends over for cheese and wine... Great app. My enthusiastic two thumbs up!
Out of the 100s of Apps I currently have, this is by far the most useful. Between the photography, references and how to guide I am never lost when buying cheese for myself or a party. I am able to purchase the perfect pairings everytime while looking like an expert. I also love that I can research ahead of time before going to store which allows me to get in and out. The only issue I have is the amount of information available so at first I was a bit overwhelmed but I am now able to navigate right through the App. ll definitely be following all the Apps from this seller!!
This is an informative and thorough resource for cheese shoppers and aspiring foodies! This app makes fantastic use of color photos as a visual guide on what to look for in the supermarket when trying a new cheese. Id love to see additional guides on how to build a Cheese Plate for parties with answers to questions such as: how much cheese should I buy per person? What types of jellies, olives, nuts, or crackers should I pair with the cheeses Ive bought to complete my Cheese Plate? If I have this wine, which cheese can I pair with it? Overall, a detailed and enlightening guide for soon-to-be cheese connoisseurs.
I have found this app to be amazing! When visiting my local grocery store, there are so many cheeses to choose from that in the past I just go for ones I know I like instead of venturing out and trying new ones and the info in this app has really helped me branch out and discover some new favorites! There are a ton of cheeses in here, and a lot of really great pairing suggestions, for wines and other cheeses!!! Ive even been out to dinner, discovered a new cheese I liked, looked it up in this app and its there! I highly recommend this app!
This app is so helpful. Not only is there useful information about the individual cheeses and cheese pairings, it provides suggestions for alternative cheeses and suggests wines for the pairings as well. Its a handy tool wrapped in a beautiful package.
Im always stuck with too many choices at the cheese counter. And the cheesemonger is often fielding questions from other shoppers, so this app is perfect for me. I can pick a cheese and quickly find others that go well with it. The wine suggestions just make it even more useful for me.
Some bad moments
Uninspired photos, most cheese is from USA, none from Canada & looking up Swiss cheeses (of which there are only 3) crashed the app every time. Why not include some imaginative food pairings for those already in the know, or some basic ones to hit a target market?
The app looks good but lacks content. Not a single cheese from Canada or Quebec (btw our cheeses wins international contests every year...). I didnt learn anything new from that app...anyway...
You may as well google cheese. Youd probably be more satisfied with the results. No Canadian cheese or brands. Super disappointing. Not worth the $$$ at all.
The pictures are nice, but there is a lot to improve for someone that really knows and enjoys cheese. Details such as Parmigiano Reggiano being listed as a French cheese showed that this app was really thrown together without much thought. I live in Paris and know cheese from France, Italy and Spain. I was very excited to see this app but after downloading I wanted to get my money back. I expected something much more in depth and interesting. A great app if you know nothing at all about cheese.
I was really excited about the potential that this app had, but was quickly disappointed after I downloaded it. Biggest problems (and there are many) include low resolution graphics, limited info for each cheese and surprisingly few cheeses covered. Some really important cheeses are missed. Not worth the money. The Fromage app also has room for improvement, but is more detailed and comprehensive and worth the money.
Reviews keep talking about how beautiful this app is but it doesnt even look like its using Retina Display -all the images are pixelated. And speaking of images, theres just too many of them - they seem to mask the content at times and its apparent in the download size as well, which is close to 20 MB.
Additionally, there seem to be glaring omissions of cheeses. Sure, there are too many cheeses to list them ALL but I say focus more on the content and less on the eye candy.
Bottom line, wish I could get my $5 back. Maybe worth $0.99.
